We highly recommend joining the waitlist or making a reservation in advance. There is limited seating inside, typically at capacity and no indoor waiting area. Because we don't place time constraints on parties, reservations are merely educated guesses on when tables will be available. Its recommended to wait inside one of the other on premise adjacent bars such as Floyd County Brewing or Forest Music Hall until the Doc notifies you that table is ready.
Looking for an amazing atmosphere to sip on Craft Cocktails, Bourbon & Wine before dinner and after dinner? Well we have the cure. Join our waitlist to see the High Street Apothecary. From there we just might be able to prescribe a hand crafted cocktail for you and allow you access to our Speakeasy?
We've partnered with Board & You to bring you Charcuterie boards carefully crafted using fresh local cheeses and complimentary garnishments that will excite your tastebuds and pair eloquently with our Bourbon, Wines and Hand Crafted Cocktails.
When Prohibition took effect on January 17, 1920, many thousands of formerly legal saloons across the country catering only to men closed down. People wanting to drink had to buy liquor from licensed druggists for “medicinal” purposes, clergymen for “religious” reasons or illegal sellers known as bootleggers. Another option was to enter private, unlicensed bar rooms, nicknamed “speakeasies” for how low you had to speak the “password” to gain entry so as not to be overheard by law enforcement. The result of Prohibition was a major and permanent shift in American social life. The illicit bars also referred to as “blind pigs” and “gin joints,” multiplied, especially in urban areas. They ranged from fancy clubs with jazz bands and ballroom dance floors to dingy backrooms, basements and rooms inside apartments. No longer segregated from drinking together, men and women reveled in speakeasies and another Prohibition-created venue, the house party. Take a step back in time and experience first hand what a speakeasy in New Albany would have felt like. Sip bourbon, wine, and cocktails in an 1825 Federal style home on the Indiana Landmark Registry known as the Stoy-Shrader House.
Did you know organized crime in America exploded because of bootlegging? Al Capone, leader of the Chicago Outfit, made an estimated $60 million a year supplying illegal beer and hard liquor to thousands of speakeasies he controlled in the late 1920s. (Ask about our liquor list on the hush hush.)
To access the Speakeasy during normal business hours, parties of 4 people or less can join the online waitlist or make future reservations from our website, social media platforms, or QR code signage posted around the campus of Floyd County Brewing and the Enchanted Forest. We do not allow any walk ins or take any phone calls. Once notified that we are ready for your party, please proceed promptly to the backside of 141 W. Main St. (Historic Red Brick building) Seating is very limited. This is strictly a 21+ venue.
